Today planning consent has been granted by London Borough of Islington for a major redevelopment at 122-130 Goswell Road and 15 Bastwick Street. The scheme by TP Bennett Architects for Generation Estates and The Carlyle Group will mean that City University London’s former halls will be demolished and replaced with new state of the art facilities.
The mixed use scheme will provide 805 student beds together with extensive amenity areas in two interconnecting blocks together with a Sport England specification sports centre of just over 30,000 sq. ft. and much needed additional teaching space of circa 19,000 sq. ft.
The consent satisfies the planning conditionality in the development agreement between the parties. As a result, Carlyle & Generation will acquire two new long leasehold interests of the site from the University who have agreed to lease the Sports Centre and teaching space and have a nominations agreement on the student accommodation. Once completed, the student accommodation will be operated as part of Carlyle/Generation’s Pure Student Living platform.
